MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The 12th ranked Northampton baseball team improved to 8-1 overall with a sweep of Muskegon Community College on Tuesday at the Ripken Complex.
GAME ONE vs. Muskegon (Won 11-1)
In game one the Spartans jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings and cruised to a run-rule shortened, 5-inning, 11-1 victory over the Jayhawks.
Ben Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) picked up his 1st career win going 5 innings, scattering 5 hits and striking out 3.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases, while
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) finished 1 for 1, with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored.
GAME TWO vs. Muskegon (Won 4-0)
Logan Magdits (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) earned the win in game two, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 14 batters.
Leading 1-0 with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 7th,
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) laced his 4th hit of the game, scoring 2 runs to put Northampton up 3-0.
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) then doubled, scoring Cummings, to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead.
Cummings finished 4 for 4 with 3 RBI and a triple, while Ratti was 2 for 4.
The Spartans will face Minnesota North - Itasca in a doubleheader on Wednesday, game times are set for 9am and noon.
