Men's Volleyball Goes 1-1 at Ocean County Tri-Match

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton men's volleyball went 1-1 at the Ocean County College tri-match on Saturday, defeating Brookdale 3-0 and then falling to the host Vikings, 3-1. 

MATCH ONE vs. BROOKDALE (Won 3-0 | 25-10, 25-9, 25-12)
John Nice (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy) recorded 11 kills, Alex Schoenen (Northampton, PA/Northampton) had 5 kills, 10 digs, 4 service aces and 3 solo blocks, and Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) recorded 26 assists and 5 service aces as the Spartans swept the Jersey Blues. 

Mamadou Dieng (Conackry, Guinea/Lycee Alberts Camus) added 4 kills, 5 solo blocks and 3 block assists. 

MATCH TWO vs. OCEAN (Lost 3-1 | 25-16, 18-25, 27-29, 19-25)
In the second match of the day, the Spartans came up short vs. the host, Ocean County College, falling 3-1.

The Spartans took the opening set 25-16, but the defending Region 19 champions stormed back to take the next 3 sets, including a thrilling 29-27 win in the 3rd set. 

John Nice (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy) was credited with 16 kills and 16 digs, Alex Schoenen (Northampton, PA/Northampton) had 13 kills and 17 digs and Ramon Romero (San Pedro Sula, Hondurus/Liceo Billingue (HN)) added 9 kills and 20 digs. 

Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) notched 42 assists for Northampton. 

The split puts Northampton at 6-1 overall and 6-1 in Region 19. 

Brookdale falls to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the Region, while Ocean moves to 7-1 overall and 7-0 in Region play. 

The Spartans return to action on Monday when they host Middlesex College at 6pm.
