BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd ranked Northampton baseball team won their 7th consecutive Region 19 series with a sweep of Lehigh Carbon Community College at Spartan Park on Saturday. The Spartans fought through the blustery conditions to down the Cougars 10-0 and 11-2. The Spartans are now 20-0 all-time vs. Lehigh Carbon.
GAME ONE - Won 10-0
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) pitched a complete game shutout in game one, allowing only 3 hits, striking out 5 as he improved to 4-0 on the season. Ratti was also 2-4 with a stolen base and RBI.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) led the 12 hit attack for the Spartans going 4-4 with 2 RBI and 4 stolen bases.
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) was 1-2 with a double,
Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) was 1-3 with a run scored and a RBI and
Manuel Barroso (Puerto Rico/Beltran Academy (PR)) finished 2-2 with 2 runs scored.
GAME TWO - Won 11-2
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) picked up the win on the mound in game two, firing a complete game 4-hitter, striking out 10. The win improves Sgarlat to 2-0 on the season.
The Spartans had 8 batters collect at least one hit, led by
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) who was 2-2 with 2 walks.
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) went 1-3 with a run scored,
John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 1-2 with 2 stolen bases and
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) had a 1-4 performance at the plate with 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.
Game three of the series, which was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon in Schnecksville, has been rescheduled for Tuesday April 16th at 3:30pm at Cougar Park.
The two victories move Northampton to 29-4 overall and 17-3 in Region 19.
Lehigh Carbon falls to 7-13 overall and 7-11 in the Region.
The Spartans are back at home on Sunday April 14th when they host the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College in a doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
