VINELAND, NJ - The #1 ranked Northampton baseball team improved their winning streak to 14 games with a 13-9 victory over RCSJ-Cumberland on Friday afternoon at Gorman Field.
Trailing 5-3 entering the 4th inning, the Spartans plated 5 runs in the top-half of the inning to take a 7-5 lead and never looked back.
Ellis Snow (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) picked up the win in relief of
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West), going 7.0 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walking 3 and fanning 1. Sgarlat threw 2.0 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits.
Northampton had 14 hits for the game, led by
Gabe Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris Central (NJ)) who finished 3 for 5 with 4 RBI, a walk and 3 runs scored.
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) who was 3 for 4 for with 2 walks, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored and
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) who went 3 for 5 with a walk and 3 runs scored.
"Very good road win for us tonight against a quality opponent," commented Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "now the focus turns to the doubleheader on Saturday as we need to be locked in for 14 innings of baseball."
Northampton improves to 33-4 overall and 21-3 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Cumberland falls to 16-12 overall and 10-9 in the Region.
The two teams will square off on Saturday in Bethlehem, PA in games two and three of their Region 19 series. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
