Lackawanna Snaps #1 Northampton's 18-Game Winning Streak

SCRANTON, Pa. - NJCAA Division II member Lackawanna College snapped Northampton's 18 game winning streak with a 11-7 non-conference win on Tuesday over the Spartans at Larson Field. 

The #1 ranked Spartans led 7-3 entering the bottom of the 5th, but the Falcons erupted for 4 runs to tie the contest at 7 and then added 4 more runs over the next 3 innings to earn the 11-7 victory. 

Logan Magdits (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) took the loss in relief of Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West), going 1.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 1 K.  Sgarlat worked 4.2 innings, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits, with 3 strikeouts.  Nate Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing 1 unearned run. 

Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) paced the offense with a 2 for 5 performance, including a homerun and 2 RBI.  John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) was 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 walks. 

The loss drops Northampton to 37-5 overall, while Lackawanna improves to 21-21. 

The Spartans jump back into conference action this weekend, with a 3-game series vs. Ocean County College.  The Spartans will travel to Toms River, NJ on Friday for game one and then host the Vikings on Saturday in games two and three.
