BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd ranked Northampton baseball team dropped a non-conference match-up to NJCAA Division II Sussex County Community College on Monday afternoon at Spartan Park, falling 9-6 to the Skylanders.
Northampton, which fell behind 9-1, made a late charge, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th, but the 8-run deficit was simply too much to overcome.
Ellis Snow (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) took the loss on the mound, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 12 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and
Nate Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) combined to pitch the final 2.2 innings.
Manuel Barroso (Puerto Rico/Beltran Academy (PR)) was the only Spartan with multiple hits, finishing 2 for 3.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) recorded 2 RBI,
Glen Pysher (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove Area) was 1 for 1 with a double and a run scored and
Joey Cook (Emmaus, PA/Agora Cyber) finished 1 for 1 with a double, a walk and 1 RBI.
The Spartans, who dropped from #1 to #2 in the NJCAA national poll this week, fall to 39-7 overall with the loss.
Division II Sussex improves to 21-15 overall.
Tuesday's scheduled 9-inning contest at Luzerne County Community College has been canceled due to predicted weather for the Luzerne County area.
The Spartans return to the diamond on Wednesday in Blue Bell, PA when they take on Montgomery County Community College at 3:30pm.
