#9 Spartans Open Region 19 Play with Sweep of Ocean

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The 9th ranked Northampton softball team opened the Region 19 portion of their schedule on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Ocean County College, winning 23-0 and 15-0, at the Viking Softball Complex. 

GAME ONE - Won 23-0
Sydney Harper (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) picked up the win in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just 2 hits, striking out 8. 

Molly Devers (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) finished 2 for 2 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Chelsea Melkowits (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Spartans used 11 hits and 19 walks to manufacture their season-high 23 runs. 

GAME TWO - Won 15-0
Morgan Boyd (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg South) led the offense in game two, finishing 2 for 3 with 2 triples and 2 RBI, Zoe Holbert (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Lauren Wehr (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI as the Spartans pounded out 17 hits in the win.

Taylor Neumann (York, PA/York Suburban) earned the victory, scattering just 2 hits, allowing no runs, striking out 6. 

The two victories moves moves Northampton to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in Region 19.

Ocean falls to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the Region.

The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they host Division II Salem Community College in their home opener at 3:30pm.
