BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd ranked Northampton Baseball completed their sweep of Union County College, winning games two and three on Sunday afternoon at Lou Cecala Field on the campus of Notre Dame-Green Pond. The Spartans won game one of the Region 19 series on Thursday, downing the Owls 19-0 at Kean University (NJ).
GAME TWO - Won 19-1
Ellis Snow (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) picked up the win on the mound, allowing 1 hit over 3.0 innings, striking out 5, improving to 3-0 on the season.
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief and
Connor Dunkelberger (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) threw the final 2 frames, striking out 4, as the Spartans prevailed 19-1.
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) led a strong offensive showing for Northampton, finishing 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base.
Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) was 2 for 3 with a homerun and 3 RBI, while
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 stolen bases to lead a 25-hit attack.
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) added 3 hits,
Cody Miller (Oxford, NJ/Warren Hills (NJ)) had a homerun and
Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI.
GAME THREE - Won 5-3
In game two,
Nate Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) picked up his 2nd win of the season, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs over 3.0 innings of work.
Gavin Panovec (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run (unearned) and striking out 6.
Ben Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) earned his 2nd save of the season, pitching a scoreless 7th inning, as the Spartans won 5-3.
Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East),
Brody Hinkle (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) and
Luis Beato (Bethlehem, PA/Muhlenberg) each went 2-3 in the win, leading the way in a 9 hit attack. Beato had a double and 2 stolen bases, while
Alexander Ruiz (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) finished 1-3 with a double and a RBI.
The sweep moves Northampton to 24-4 overall and 12-3 in Region 19.
Union falls to 2-24 overall and 1-18 in the Region.
The Spartans return to Spartan Field on Tuesday to host Camden County College in games one and two of their series. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
