Baseball Takes First Two Games of Camden Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 2nd ranked Northampton baseball claimed their 6th Region 19 series win of the season, sweeping games one and two from Camden County College on Tuesday at Spartan Park.

GAME ONE - Won 8-0
Reigning NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week Austin Beard (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) picked up win #6, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 13 and walking none. Beard improves to 6-1 on the season. 

Brandon Ratti (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 2 for 3 with a run scored, 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases.  John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished 2 for 3.

GAME TWO - Won 11-3
The Spartans received another outstanding effort on the mound in game two, as Ethan Woods (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) (4-2) fired 6 innings , scattering 3 hits and striking out 11, as the Spartans topped Camden CC, 11-3. Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) pitched a scoreless 7th inning, collecting 2 strikeouts.

John Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) led the offense for the Spartans going 2-4 with 2 solo homeruns, Gabriel Caso (Califon, NJ/West Morris (NJ)) was 2-2 with a triple and a RBI.  Robert Furino (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mt. East) went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI. 

The sweep moves Northampton to 26-4 overall and 14-3 in Region 19.

The Cougars fall to 8-11 overall and 5-9 in the Region.

Game three of the series is set for Wednesday in Blackwood, NJ.  First pitch of the 9-inning game is set for 3:30pm.
