BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's volleyball team, which received votes in the NJCAA Division III preseason poll, went 1-1 on Saturday to open the 2024 campaign, defeating Genesee Community College (NY) 3-0 and then falling to Nassau Community College (NY) 3-1 in the Spartan tri-match at the Arthur L. Scott Center. Nassau defeated Genesee in the other match, to finish 2-0 on the day.
Match One
Genesee Community College - Won 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-12)
The Spartans downed the Cougars of Genesee Community College in their season opener as
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 9 kills, 16 digs and 2 blocks, while
Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) added 6 kills, 7 digs, 3 solo blocks and 9 block assists.
Leana Angelone (Coopersburg, PA/Faith Christian Academy) was credited with 8 kills and 12 assists and
Mitzy Orlic (Bethlehem, PA/Northampton) registered 17 assists for Northampton.
The win puts Northampton at 1-0, while Genesee fell to 0-2 with the loss.
Match Two
Nassau Community College - Lost 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 10-25, 23-25)
After taking the opening set, the Spartans dropped 3 consecutive sets to the Lions, losing at home for the first time since September 8, 2022.
Mackenzie Davis (Warsaw, VA/Rappahannock (VA)) notched 36 digs,
Bella Dise (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) had 8 kills and
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 6 kills, 22 digs and 1 solo block to lead Northampton.
The Spartans, 1-1 overall, are now off until September 4th when they host Penn State - Lehigh Valley at 6pm.
