TOMS RIVER, NJ - The 15th ranked Northampton women's volleyball team downed Ocean County College in a 5-set thriller on Monday night, taking the 5th and deciding set 15-13 to earn the 3-2 victory.
Trailing 11-8 in the 5th set, the Spartans outscored the host Vikings 7-2 over the final 9 points to earn the crucial Region 19 victory. "This is a huge road victory for us," commented Head Coach
Rachael Aquila, "we have been a little inconsistent this season, so coming here tonight and getting a victory against a very good Ocean team is a positive step."
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 11 kills and 17 digs,
Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) had 10 kills, 12 digs and 13 total blocks and
Leana Angelone (Coopersburg, PA/Faith Christian Academy) finished with 35 assists to pace the Spartans.
Mackenzie Davis (Warsaw, VA/Rappahannock (VA)) added 14 digs for Northampton, which improved to 9-0 all-time vs. the Vikings.
The win moves Northampton to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 19.
Ocean falls to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday September 21st when they host Montgomery County Community College and Lehigh Carbon Community College in a tri-match at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
