LINCROFT, NJ - The Northampton men's soccer team opened the 2024 campaign with a 6-2 loss on the road vs. Brookdale Community College on Thursday afternoon.
The Spartans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 15 minute mark of 1st half, as
Moize Baraka (DRC Congo/William Allen) took a pass from
Wisdom Ntona (Johannesburg, South Africa/Queens) and slid it past the Jersey Blues goalkeeper.
Northampton was able to put 5 more shots on goal in the first half, but could not connect and the Jersey Blues were able to convert on a corner kick to tie the contest at 1-1 at intermission.
The Spartans lost primary defender
Sylvester Ayuk (Kumba, Cameroon/Mundani-Wabane) to an injury early in the second half and immediately felt the effects as Brookdale scored 5 consecutive goals to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Elijah Ejiofor (Gonesse, France/Pocono Mt. West) was able to find the back of the net late, giving Northampton their second goal of the contest, making the final 6-2.Â
Hector Argueta (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) made 5 saves between the pipes for Northampton.
The loss drops Northampton to 0-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Region 19.Â
Brookdale improves to 1-3-0 overall with the win.Â
The Spartans are back in action on September 10th when they host Harrisburg Area Community College at 4pm.Â
