Strong Second Half Leads Spartans Past RCSJ-Cumberland

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team used a 34-22 advantage over the final two quarters to pull away from RCSJ-Cumberland and earn a 56-41 victory on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.

Despite another poor shooting night, the Spartans were able to force the Dukes into 29 turnovers, leading to 21 points.  Northampton outrebounded Cumberland 51-41, including 26 offensive rebounds which led to the Spartans attempting 24 more shots than their opponent.

"We really struggled again from the field tonight," lamented Head Coach Carly Gallagher, "but I'm happy that we were able to battle through it and pick up the win.  The kids played hard from start to finish."

Kailen Felty (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) led Northampton with 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Anisha Sepulveda (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) had 13 points and Heaven Dubois (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) finished with 9 points and 14 rebounds.

The victory moves Northampton to 13-7 overall and 10-5 in the Region.

RCSJ-Cumberland falls to 8-13 overall and 6-12 in Region 19.

The Spartans hit the hardwood again on Saturday when they host EPAC rival Montgomery County Community College at noon.
