BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Women's Volleyball team rallied past NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College with a spirited 3-1 victory (22-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-14) on Thursday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans, ranked 7th in the NJCAAÂ DIII national poll, answered back after dropping the first set to take the next three sets and seal the victory in front of an energetic crowd on Sophomore Night.
Freshman Middle Hitter
Grace Coppola (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) alongside Outside Hitter
Kyra Miller (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) led the offensive attack for the Spartans with 9 kills apiece while Coppola also added 6 service aces, 9 digs and 9 blocks in the win. Sophomore Right Side
Zoe Velez (Landville, PA/Warwick) also contributed 8 kills and Outside Hitter
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 6 kills along with 3 service aces and a game high 24 digs. Sophomore Setter
Samantha Nagy (Easton, PA/Easton) had 33 assists and 12 digs.
Freshman LiberoÂ
Gianna Sciarra (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) continued her season long strong play in the back row for the Spartans recording 24 digs and 3 service aces. Sciarra now has 459 digs on the season which sets a new Single Season Dig record for the Spartans. The record was previously held by former Spartan
Mackenzie Davis (Warsaw, VA/Rappahannock (VA)) with 457 digs in 2024.
"Fun night of volleyball," explained Spartans Head Coach
Rachael Aquila, "It was great to see a big crowd out to support our team and sophomores and I was pleased the way we battled after dropping the first set. This was a good test with playoffs right around the corner."
Lackwanna slips to 8-10 overall with the loss.
Northampton improves to 23-1 overall with the victory.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, October 18th when they host Rowan College of South Jersey-Gloucester and Passaic County Community College in a tri-match at the Arthur L. Scott Center. The Spartans are scheduled to take on RCSJ-Gloucester at 12pm and Passaic at 4pm.Â
