BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The top-seeded Northampton Women's Volleyball team advanced to the NJCAA East A District Championship with a dominant 25-14, 25-10, 25-18 sweep over the #8 seed RCSJ-Gloucester Roadrunners on Wednesday evening at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
Sophomore Outside Hitter
Lexi Womack (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) led the Spartans with 14 kills and 5 digs while Middle Hitters
Grace Coppola (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) and
Kyra Miller (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) chipped in with 5 kills apiece. Setter
Samantha Nagy (Easton, PA/Easton) collected 26 assists along with 4 service aces and Freshman Defensive Specialist
Emily Marcial (Allentown, PA/Executive Charter) recorded 5 service aces and 8 digs.Libero
Gianna Sciarra (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) notched 8 digs in the win.
"It was good to get back on the floor after a bit of a break," commented Spartan Head Coach
Rachael Aquila, "I thought we came out strong and picked up right where we left off at the end of the regular season. This was a good playoff win and now we get ready for the District Championship and a chance to punch our ticket back to the national tournament."
Raritan Valley, the #5 seed, topped #4 seed Harrisburg, 3-2, to advance to Saturday's championship match against the Spartans.
The Spartans, ranked 7th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, improve to 27-1 with the victory. The Roadrunners end their season at 12-7.
Northampton will now host the NJCAA East District Championship against Raritan Valley on Saturday, November 1st at the Arthur L. Scott Center at 8pm. The winner will advance to the NJCAA National Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, November 13-15.
