BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 6th ranked and undefeated Northampton Men's Basketball team picked up a dominating, 87-53, win over the visiting Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The nationally ranked Spartans found themselves battling a slow start and trailing 19-11 at the 9 minute mark of the first half. A quick timeout by veteran Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy and some timely substitutions saw the Spartans start to claw back with some quick points off transition and execution at the free throw line.
Sophomore
Ermil Fleurinvil (Reading, PA/Downey Christian School) hit both ends of a 1 and 1 to knot the score at 19-19 with 7:46 left until intermission. The Spartans were able to jump out front off back to back 3 point baskets by
Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East High School) and extended the lead to 32-26 off a 3 point basket from
Sihaaj Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/Simon Gratz) with just over 2 minutes remaining in the first half. The Spartans took a 37-30 lead into half time.
The Spartans came out of the locker room in the second half and took control of the contest the rest of the way, outscoring the Trailblazers, 50-23.

Brennan McCarthy, "Felt we came out a bit slow but rebounded well and got back on track quickly to start the second half. Pleased with the overall effort. We will keep moving forward."
Sophomore Point Guard
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) led the Spartans with 14 points while also dishing out 4 assists. Sophomore Forwards
Aiden Brown (Philadelphia, PA/Math Civic and Science Charter) and
Ermil Fleurinvil (Reading, PA/Downey Christian School) each recorded a double-double in the win. Brown scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Fleurinvil scored 12 points with 11 boards. Guard
Sebastian Fermin (East Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East High School) scored 10 points off the bench and was 4-4 from the free throw line.
Northampton improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Region 19. The Spartans are now 20-1 all-time versus the Trailblazers.
Luzerne falls to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Region.
The Spartans will be back on the floor on Tuesday, November 25th for a Region 19 match up with the Phantoms of Delaware County Community College at 7pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
