EDISON, NJ - The Northampton men's volleyball team overcame a 2-1 deficit on Monday night at Middlesex College, winning the 4th and 5th sets to win the match 3-2.   

The Spartans dropped the opening set 25-16 and then rebounded to take the 2nd set 25-19 to even the match at 1-1.  The Colts then won the 3rd set 25-22, before Northampton rallied to win the 4th set 25-20 and the deciding 5th set 16-14. 

"Really tight match, Middlesex played well," remarked Head Coach Rachael Aquila, "our guys need to realize that everyone is gunning for them ... we have to come ready to play on every point."

John Nice (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy) finished with 19 kills, 4 service aces and 5 digs, Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) recorded 18 kills and 6 blocks and Brando Gomez (Allentown, PA/Building 21) added 9 kills and 5 blocks. 

Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) registered 52 assists and Matthew Gonzalez (Coopersburg, PA/Liberty) was credited with 24 digs. 

The Spartans improve to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in Region 19 with the win. 

Middlesex falls to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the Region.

Northampton is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to face CCP and Atlantic Cape in a tri-match.  The Spartans are scheduled to face CCP at noon and Atlantic Cape at 2pm.
