BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 5th ranked Northampton baseball team defeated NJCAA Division II member Sussex County Community College on Monday evening at Spartan Park, downing the Skylanders 9-7, for their 7th consecutive victory.
Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the 4th, the Spartans methodically started their comeback, scoring at least 1 run in 5 straight innings to earn the comeback win.
Nathan Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) picked up the win in relief, allowing 2 runs (none earned) on 4 hits over 5 innings, striking out 6.
Jared Diefenbach (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) earned a no-decision after going 4 innings, scattering 8 hits and striking out 7.
Kyle Stoner (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township (NJ)) led a 14-hit attack with a 3 for 4 performance, including a pair of doubles, a stolen base and a RBI.
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) and
Cody Miller (Oxford, NJ/Warren Hills (NJ)) were each 3 for 4 with a RBI for the Spartans.
The non-conference win moves Northampton to 13-6 on the year, while Sussex falls to 10-8.
The Spartans return to the diamond on Friday when they travel to #1 RCSJ-Gloucester for game one of their three game series.
