SEWELL, NJ - In a Top-5 showdown, #1 RCSJ-Gloucester scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to stun #5 Northampton on Friday afternoon in game one of their 3-game Region 19 series.
The Spartans, who jumped on the Roadrunners early with a leadoff homerun from
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), increased that lead to 4-0 entering the bottom of the 7th. The Roadrunners were able to plate 2 runs in the bottom half the 7th, thanks to a RJ Mustaro 2-run homerun, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
The Spartans remained in control heading in to the bottom of the 9th, but the Roadrunners rallied for 3 runs, scoring the winning run on a bases loaded walk, to earn the 5-4 come from behind victory.
Cooper Natisin (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) received a no decision after going 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 7.
Nathan Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) took the loss, working 0.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun, 3 runs scored and a RBI, while
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 2 for 4 with a double and
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) went 2 for 4.
The loss drops Northampton to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Gloucester improves to 22-2 overall and 12-0 in Region play.
The two top-5 programs continue their series on Saturday in Bethlehem, with a doubleheader slated to start at 12pm.
