BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 5th ranked Northampton baseball team won game three of their opening Region 19 series vs. Montgomery on Tuesday afternoon, downing the Mustangs 9-2, to earn a 2-1 series victory.
Jared Diefenbach (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) earned the win, going 4.0 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs while scattering 3 hits and fanning 10.
JJ Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) worked 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, while
Aaron Clark (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and
Brad Rissmiller (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) each pitched a scoreless inning.
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base, while
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) finished 2 for 5 with a double and a RBI.
Glen Pysher (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove Area) went 2 for 2 and
Lincoln Hower (Kintnersville, PA/Faith Christian) scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases.
Northampton moves to 2-1 overall, 2-1 in Region 19 and 2-1 in the EPAC.
Montgomery falls to 1-2 overall, 1-2 in the Region and 1-2 in conference play.
The Spartans improve to 21-6 all-time vs. Montgomery.
Northampton is now off until Saturday March 8th when they face NJCAA Division II Clark State at the Ripken Complex in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
