MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The 5th ranked Northampton Baseball team went 1-1 on day one of their spring trip, splitting two games vs. NJCAA Division II opponents at the Ripken Complex in Myrtle Beach.
GAME ONE vs. CLARK STATE COLLEGE (Won 12-5)
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 2 for 2 with a homerun, his 2nd of the year, to help lead a 15 hit attack for Northampton.
Lincoln Hower (Kintnersville, PA/Faith Christian),
Cade Capello (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) and
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) each had 2 hits. Cummings went 2-4 with a double and a stolen base, Hower was 2-5 with 3 stolen bases and
Cade Capello (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished 2-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
Ellis Snow (Harrisburg, PA/Lower Dauphin) picked up his first win of the year, allowing 1 hit in 3 innings of work, striking out 3.
Jayson Ehrhart (Pottstown, PA/Springford) followed Snow with 3 strong innings of relief, scattering 2 hits and striking out 2.
GAME TWO vs. MACOMB COMMUNITY COLLEGE (Lost 4-2)
In game two,
Nate Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) suffered the loss on the mound, as the Spartans fell to Macomb, 4-2. Mostosky allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, striking out 4. The Spartan offense was only able to put together 3 hits in the loss, led by
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) who was 1-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Kyle Stoner (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township (NJ)) and
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) were both 1-3 for the Spartans.
Mason Sgarlat (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) pitched the final 3.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts.
The split puts Northampton at 3-2 overall.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday as they are set to face Penn State Hazleton at 3pm and Cairn University JV at 6pm.
