MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The 5th ranked Northampton baseball team picked up two victories on Sunday at the Ripken Complex, downing Penn St. Hazleton 10-9 in extra innings and then defeating Cairn University (JV), 7-0, in the nightcap.
GAME ONE vs. PENN STATE HAZLETON (Won 10-9 - 9 innings)
Danny Qualteria (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) led Northampton in game one vs. Penn St. Hazleton, going 3 for 3 with 4 runs scored, a double, 2 RBI and 4 stolen bases.
Cody Miller (Oxford, NJ/Warren Hills (NJ)) was 3 for 5 with a double,
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) went 2 for 5 with 2 stolen bases and
Lincoln Hower (Kintnersville, PA/Faith Christian) finished 2 for 2 with a RBI.
Starter
JJ Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) received a no decision after 4 innings of work, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 5.
Cooper Natisin (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) picked up the win in relief, throwing 3 shutout innings and striking out 6.
GAME TWO vs. CAIRN UNIVERSITY JV (Won 7-0)
Jared Diefenbach (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) improved to 2-0 on the mound this season, throwing a complete game shutout vs.Cairn in game two, scattering 5 hits, while striking out 6.
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) was 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI, while
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished 1 for 2 with a run scored and a RBI.
Cody Miller (Oxford, NJ/Warren Hills (NJ)) and
Cade Capello (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) each went 1 for 2 with a run scored.
The two wins move Northampton to 5-2 overall on the season.
