Men's Volleyball Splits at Ocean Tri-Match

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton men's volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday at the Ocean Tri-Match, falling to the host Vikings 3-2 in the first match and the rebounding to down Brookdale, 3-1, in their second match of the day. 

MATCH ONE vs. OCEAN (Lost 3-2)
The Spartans fell behind two sets to none, but rallied to tie the match at 2-2, before falling in the winner take all 5th set, 15-13. 

Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) recorded 17 kills, 5 blocks and 7 digs, while Fred Patton (Trexlertown, PA/Parkland) recorded 11 kills and 11 digs.

Zach Franges (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) notched 43 assists and 6 digs for Northampton.

MATCH TWO vs. BROOKDALE (Won 3-1)
Northampton rebounded in their second mach of the day, downing the Jersey Blues 25-12, 15-25, 25-23, 25-18 to earn the victory. 

John Nice (Feasterville, PA/Neshaminy) was credited with 12 kills and 10 digs, Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) had 11 kills and 7 blocks, and Omarion Tembo (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) added 8 kills for the Spartans. 

Matthew Gonzalez (Coopersburg, PA/Liberty) recorded 21 digs. 

"Tough day, as we really did not play up to par given that most of our guys have been out sick all week," stated Head Coach Rachael Aquila, "but I give them a ton of credit, they battled all day and fought through it."

The Spartans are now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in Region 19.

Northampton returns to action on Monday when they travel to Edison, New Jersey to face the Colts of Middlesex.
