VINELAND, NJ - The 4th ranked Northampton baseball team dropped games two and three of their Region 19 series vs. RCSJ-Cumberland on Saturday, falling 4-3 and 12-3 at the Dukes Athletic Complex. Northampton dropped game one on Friday in Bethlehem, 21-5.
GAME TWO - Lost 4-3
The Dukes jumped out with a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Spartans battled back, tying the contest at 2-2 in the 3rd, before Cumberland plated 2 runs in the 5th to retake the lead for good. Northampton was able to push across a run in the 7th, but it wasn't enough.
Ellis Snow (Harrisburg, PA/Lower Dauphin) took the loss, going 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2.
Offensively,
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) finished 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 runs scored,
Kyle Stoner (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township (NJ)) was 2 for 3 and
Nick Stettner (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) added 2 hits.
GAME THREE - Lost 12-3
In game three, RCSJ-Cumberland led 12-0 entering the 7th, before the Spartans were able to manufacture 3 runs, to make the final 12-3.
Starter
JJ Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was charged with the loss, working 3.0 innings, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits, with 5 walks and 4 K's.
Aaron Clark (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty),
John Pushkar (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) and
Christopher Parrillo (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) each worked 1.0 inning in relief, combining to allow 5 runs.
Braden Cummings (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) had 2 hits,
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) was 1 for 4 with a double, run scored and a RBI and
Shane Henrick (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) added a hit to lead the offense.
The Spartans fall to 15-13 overall and 9-8 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Cumberland improves to 15-12 overall and 9-7 in Region play.
Northampton will meet Salem Community College in a weekday series, set to start on Tuesday.
