CARNEYS POINT, NJ - The Northampton baseball team picked up an important win in their playoff push, downing Salem Community College, 16-12, on Wednesday afternoon at Bunnell Field.
Leading 12-6 after 7.5 innings, the Spartans watched the Mighty Oaks score 6 runs in the bottom half of the 7th to tie the game. After a scoreless 8th, Northampton pushed across 4 runs in the top of the 9th, highlighted by a
Jack Smale (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) 2-run single, to earn the win.
Brad Rissmiller (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out 2.
Nathan Mostosky (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) got the start, going 6.0 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits, while
JJ Cruz (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) allowed 6 runs (4 earned) in an inning of work.
Kyle Stoner (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township (NJ)) finished 5 for 6 with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored,
Cody Miller (Oxford, NJ/Warren Hills (NJ)) was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, including a homerun and Smale went 2 for 5 with 4 RBI.
The win moves the Spartans to 20-18 overall and 14-13 in Region 19.
Salem falls to 23-22 overall and 17-11 in the Region.
Northampton is set to host Union College in game one of their 3-game Region 19 series on Thursday at 3:30pm. Please note, the game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was changed to avoid potential weather on Friday afternoon.
