BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Trailing 3-1 late in the second half,
Freshman
Amir Rustom (Rihania, Israel/Branko Weiss Anna Frank) connected for a pair of unassisted goals to help rally the Spartans to a 3-3 tie with Delaware County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Freshman
Trevor Bartholdi (Chichester, PA/Chichester) scored a first half goal for the Spartans as the teams ended the half tied, 1-1. The Phantoms grabbed some second half momentum with two quick scores in the 46th and 48th minutes for a 3-1 lead. The Spartans were able to find some life and cut the lead to 3-2 when Rustom scored in the 67th minute and converted again with just under 5 minutes to play to knot things up at 3-3. Both teams were scoreless through the last 5 minutes of play for the 3-3 tie.
Freshman goalie
Theo Jenkins (Phillipsburg, NJ/Nazareth) recorded three saves for the Spartans.
"Good match today," explained Head Coach
Mario Barrantes. "I thought we played well in the first half and again fell behind early with two quick scores to start the second half. We kept battling and we were able to find a way to cut the lead and tie the score late. That is a positive. We will take it and look to build off of it."
The Spartans are now 0-5-1 overall and 0-5-1 in Region 19.
Delaware County is 1-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Region.
The Spartans are back on the field this Saturday as they host Bergen Community College at 12pm.
