Soccer Drops Region 19 Match Against Bergen

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Soccer team struggled to get any type of momentum going on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-1 to Bergen in a Region 19 match up at Spartan Field.

The Spartans fell behind just over one minute into the contest when Bergen converted on a breakaway for an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0 before freshman forward Mohamed Hassanali (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) hit the back of the net for an unassisted score for the Spartans, cutting the margin to 3-1.

Bergen added two more scores before the end of the half for the 5-1 lead at intermission. The Spartans were held scoreless in the second half as Bergen added a pair of goals for the 7-1 win.

Noah Dergham (Bouar, Lebanon/Antonine Sisters) recorded 7 saves in goal for the Spartans.

"We fell behind early again and put ourselves in a tough spot right from the start," explained Head Coach Mario Barrantes, "We need to find a way to get some momentum early and build some confidence. It is tough to keep battling from behind."
