Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hassanali and Rivas Lead Spartans Past Atlantic Cape, 2-1

MAYS LANDING, NJ - The Northampton Men's Soccer team picked up their second straight victory with a big 2-1 road win over Atlantic Cape on Tuesday afternoon at the Buccaneer Soccer Complex.

Freshman Forward Mohamed Hassanali (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) put the Spartans on the scoreboard with his 4th goal of the season at the 6 minute mark for the early 1-0 lead. The Spartans held the 1-0 advantage through half time and extended the lead when Freshman Santiago Rivas (Pereira, Columbia/Liceo Euroamericano) converted a Penalty Kick in the 61st minute to put the Spartans ahead 2-0. Atlantic Cape cut the deficit in half with a goal on a Penalty Kick in the 72nd minute and both teams remained scoreless the rest of the way as the Spartans held on for the 2-1 win.

"Great win for our squad," explained Head Coach Mario Barrantes, "Coming off our first win over the weekend and to be able to carry that momentum into a tough road match was encouraging. This was another hard fought match and we held it together from start to finish. A pair of big scores when we needed it and strong defensive play was the difference for us. Good to see us start to put this together and we will continue to build on it. Proud of our team today."

Spartan Freshman Goalkeeper Theo Jenkins (Phillipsburg, NJ/Nazareth) recorded 9 saves in the win.

The Spartans improve to 2-7-1 overall with the victory.

The Buccaneers slip to 2-5-1 overall with the loss.

Northampton is back in action on Saturday, October 4th when the host Raritan Valley Community College at Spartan Field at 12pm.
