NEWTON, NJ -- The Northampton Women's Basketball team jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in topping Sussex County Community College, 72-43, on Saturday afternoon at Skylander Arena.
The Spartans, who outscored the Skylanders 38-20 in the second half, grabbed 58 rebounds and recorded 10 steals while holding Sussex to 30% shooting from the floor.

Carly Gallagher, "I thought we did a nice job today controlling the tempo and we got an outstanding overall effort from our team. We are glad to be back on the floor and ready to keep going."
Sophomore
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) was the headliner with a career high 40 point explosion to lead the offense for the Spartans. Sweatte, one of three Spartans recording a double-double, was 15-25 from the floor (60%) and a blistering 8-13 (61%) from 3 point range while also grabbing 10 boards and dishing off 5 assists to open the second half of the season.
Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) chipped in with 10 points and 15 rebounds and
Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) scored 10 points with 11 rebounds.
Abymarie Colon (Easton, PA/Wilson) scored 5 points and recorded 5 steals and
Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Spartans improve to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in Region 19.
Sussex slips to 5-11 overall and 1-8 in the Region with the loss.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday, January 13th when they host Atlantic Cape Community College at 5pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
