BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Women's Basketball team saw their 5-game win streak snapped on Thursday night with a hard-luck loss against NJCAA DII nationally-ranked Mercer County Community College, 93-54, at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The Spartans fell behind early to the 14th ranked Mustangs, trailing 28-14, after the first quarter and were unable to recover through the second quarter. The Spartans trailed 44-21 at half-time and did not have any answers after the intermission as Mercer County pushed forward to seal the win.
"Tough loss against a very talented team," explained Spartans Head Coach
Carly Gallagher. "Give Mercer all the credit tonight. We just don't have time to hang our heads on this one as we need to be ready to get back on the floor on Saturday and put this behind us quickly."
Sophomore guard
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 24 points and 5 rebounds.
Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) scored 9 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and
Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored 8 points with 2 blocks, 3 assists and 4 boards.
Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) collected a game-high 13 rebounds for the Spartans.
Northampton falls to 13-5 overall with the loss.
Mercer County Community College improves to 15-3 overall.
The Spartans are back in action this Saturday when they host Passaic County Community College at 12pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
