BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team rolled to a 68-36 non-conference road victory on Thursday evening over host Montgomery County Community College at the Health Sciences Center.
The Spartans, who Received Votes earlier this week to crack into the NJCAA national poll for the first time this season, put on a defensive clinic by holding the Mustangs to only 7 second half points to fuel the non-conference victory.
"Tough start tonight on the road but thought we did a nice job once we got going in this one," stated Spartans Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "Giving up 29 points in the first half to then allow only 7 second half points was huge for us. Our kids locked in and took care of business tonight and that was great to see."
The Spartans and Mustangs battled through the first two quarters with the home team taking a 29-25 lead into half time. The Spartans regrouped and completely shut down the Montgomery offense by limiting the Mustangs to 3 points in the third quarter and 4 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 43-7, in the second half.
Sophomore guard
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double and
Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) recorded her own double-double with 14 points and a team-high 15 rebounds.
