BLACKWOOD, NJ - The 8th ranked Northampton men's basketball team picked up a strong, 77-62, Region 19 late season road win over Camden County College on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph Papiano Gymnasium.
The Spartans and Cougars traded baskets for the first 15 minutes of the opening half with Camden holding a 24-23 early lead. The Spartans started to generate momentum in the last five minutes and carried a, 39-30, advantage into half-time. Leading, 51-44, with 10 minutes remaining, Northampton held the edge the remainder of the second half and cruised to the 15 point win.
"Good win on the road today after a tough loss earlier this week," explained Spartans Head Coach
Brennan McCarthy. "It was good to get back to relative full strength and felt we did a nice job competing and bouncing back to get the road win. We are looking to finish strong this coming week and get ready for the playoffs."
Sophomore guard
Kevin Rucker (Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner Prendergast) delivered with 27 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Spartans attack. Rucker was 6-8 (75%) from the floor and 9-12 (75%) from the free throw line and hit 2 of 3 shots from beyond the arc. Point Guard
Terrence Cobb (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) scored 17 points with 3 assists and 2 steals along with 3 rebounds and
Jahad Marable (Philadelphia, PA/Science Leadership Academy - Beeber) connected for 14 points and 6 rebounds. Forward
Mekhi Shillingford (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Wood High School) scored 9 points with 5 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Ermil Fleurinvil (Reading, PA/Downey Christian School)Â scored 8 points with 6 boards.
Northampton improves to 23-4 overall and 15-2 in Region 19.
Camden is now 17-11 overall and 12-5 in the Region following the loss.
The Spartans will look to close out their regular season on Tuesday, February 17th when they travel to Lancaster to take on Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in a non-conference match-up at 7pm at the Multipurpose Activity Center.
