BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday night with a, 53-50, loss to Brookdale Community College in the quarter-final round of the Division III North Atlantic District tournament at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
The 3rd seeded Spartans jumped out to 16-10 first quarter lead over the 6th seeded Jersey Blues, but saw their lead quickly disappear, as Brookdale outscored Northampton, 22-6, in the second quarter, and the Spartans trailed by 10 going into halftime, 32-22.
The Spartans battled their way back into the game after the intermission, outscoring the visitors, 17-11, in the third quarter, cutting the Brookdale lead to 4 points heading into the final frame, 43-39. Both teams battled down the stretch and with 3 minutes remaining the score was tied, 50-50. Brookdale was able to convert on a layup and a free throw in the final minute to extend their lead to, 53-50, and the Spartans were unable to answer, as time expired and their season came to an end.
"Disappointing loss tonight," explained Spartans Head Coach
Carly Gallagher, "I'm proud of our team and proud of how hard they worked all season to get to this point. This just didn't go our way."
Sophomore guard
Layla Sweatte (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the Spartans with a team high 18 points and 7 rebounds and was 4-4 from the free-throw line.
Neoshe Perez (Bath, PA/Executive Charter) scored 7 points with 5 rebounds and
Joey-Madison Shaul (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) scored 6 points and grabbed 6 boards.
Nia Brown (Bethlehem, PA/Executive Charter) had 7 points with 8 rebounds and
Zeriah Hinson (Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) added 8 points and 7 rebounds off the bench in the loss.
The Spartans wrap up the 2025-26 campaign with an 18-9 overall mark.
Brookdale improves to 15-11 overall and advances to take on #2 seed RCSJ-Gloucester in the semi-finals of the North Atlantic District tournament.
