TOMS RIVER, NJ - The Northampton men's volleyball team lost a pair of Region 19 matches on Saturday afternoon, losing, 3-1, to Ocean County College (25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 20-25) and, 3-2, to Brookdale Community College (16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 11-25, 6-15).in tri-match action at the HPEC Center at Ocean County College.
MATCH ONE vs Ocean County College (Lost 3-1)
Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) recorded 20 kills and 8 digs along with 5 blocks in the loss to Ocean County College.
Calvin Long (Allentown, PA/William Allen) had 10 kills with 6 digs and 6 blocks and
Lucas Johnson (Glendale, AZ/Independence (AZ)) had 32 assists with 2 blocks in the loss.
The Spartans took the first set, 25-23, but watched Ocean storm back to take the next three sets, 17-25, 19-25 and 20-25, falling short against the 10th ranked Vikings, 3-1.
MATCH TWO vs Brookdale Community College (Lost 3-2)
Luke Smith (Breiningsville, PA/Parkland) recorded 13 kills and 15 digs along with 5 assists and 4 blocks in the loss to Brookdale Community College.
Calvin Long (Allentown, PA/William Allen) had 5 kills with 9 digs and 4 blocks and
Fred Patton (Trexlertown, PA/Parkland) collected 16 digs.
Lucas Johnson (Glendale, AZ/Independence (AZ)) had 21 assists with 4 kills and 5 digs.
The Spartans jumped out to a 2-1 edge after dropping the opening set, 16-25, but rebounding to take the second set, 25-21, and the third set, 25-23. The Jersey Blues were able to sway the momentum in their favor after taking the fourth set, 11-25, and the fifth and deciding set, 6-15, to seal the win over the Spartans.
The Spartans, following the two losses, are now 3-9 overall and 3-9 in Region 19.
Ocean County College improves to 7-3 overall and 7-3 in Region 19 while Brookdale now stands at 6-7 overall and 6-4 in the Region.
Northampton is back on the floor on Wednesday, March 25th when they host Harcum College at 6pm at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
