VINELAND, NJ - The
Northampton softball team opened the season with a convincing doubleheader sweep over the RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes on Saturday afternoon at the Dukes Softball Complex.
The Spartans opened with a, 19-1, win in Game 1 and followed with a, 14-4, victory in Game 2 to kick off the 2026 season.
"Very pleased with the result and our overall effort today," stated Spartans Head Coach Eric Kutteroff, "It has been a long winter and it was nice to finally see some nicer weather and see our kids have the opportunity to get outside and compete. We have been working hard and this was a good way to get things started."
GAME ONE - WON 19-1 in 5 INNINGS
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) (1-0) picked up the victory on the mound for the Spartans with a complete game effort, allowing 5 hits and 0 earned runs, while striking out 8. Kozy was also 2-3 at the plate with a double and 4 RBI.
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton) was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was 2-3 and knocked in 2 runs.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) was 3-4 with 7 RBI, delivering the big blow, a grand slam HR in the top of the second inning to put the Spartans ahead, 16-0.
GAME TWO - WON 14-4 in 5 INNINGS
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) (2-0) continued her dominant effort on the mound in Game 2, firing her second complete game of the day, scattering 8 hits and striking out 6.

Kailyn Kielbasa (Hawley, Pa/Wallenpaupack High School) was 2-2 at the plate with a double, stolen base and an RBI and
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton) was 1-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Spartans 8-hit attack.
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was 1-3 with a triple a stolen base and
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) was 1-4 with a triple and team high 5 RBI.
Northampton improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 19.
RCSJ-Cumberland slips to 1-4 overall and 1-4 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday, March 24th when the host Bergen Community College in a Region 19 double-header beginning at 3:30pm at the Softball Complex.
