BLACKWOOD, NJ - The nationally ranked Northampton softball team picked up two more wins on Saturday afternoon, hitting their way past the Cougars of Camden Counity College, 18-9 and 15-5, in a Region 19 doubleheader at the Cougar Softball Facility.
The Spartans, ranked 10th in the most recent NJCAA national poll, exploded for 33 runs and 34 hits in an offensive outburst that lead the way to the doubleheader sweep. The Spartans are on a 8 game winning streak to open the young season.
"Our bats were hot again and led the way for us today," stated Spartans Head Coach
Eric Kutteroff, "Very pleased with the way we have swung the bats throughout the lineup and encouraging to see everyone contributing to the offense. We have also been very strong on the mound and have been making the plays on defense. It is early but this is a good sign for us and hopefully we can continue to build some momentum as we get deeper into our schedule."
GAME ONE - Won 18-9
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up the victory on the mound, improving to 7-0 with a complete game effort, striking out 6 batters. Kozy was also 2-3 at the plate with 4 runs scored.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) led the charge on offense, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles and 6 RBI, fueling the 20-hit attack for the Spartans.
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton) was 2-4 with a double and a stolen base with 3 RBI and
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) was 2-5 with 3 runs scored and a double.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) was 3-4 with an RBI and
Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) and
Kailyn Kielbasa (Hawley, Pa/Wallenpaupack High School) each had 3 hits in the win.
GAME TWO - Won 15-5
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) picked up her 8th win on the season with a 5 inning complete game effort for the Spartans, striking out three and allowing 3 runs. Kozy was also 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI.
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) was 2-4 with a double and a home run, her 3rd home run of the season, as the Spartans scored 15 runs on 14 hits in the win.
Maggie Pagotto (Lehighton, Pa/Lehighton) was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI and
Kailyn Kielbasa (Hawley, Pa/Wallenpaupack High School) was 1-3 with 3 runs scored including a double and an RBI.
Northampton improves to 8-0 overall and 8-0 in Region 19.
Camden County College slips to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the Region.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday when they host Brookdale Community College for a Region 19 doubleheader at 3:30pm.
