BETHLEHEM, PA - The 10th ranked Northampton softball team fell short in both games of their Region 19 doubleheader against Brookdale Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

The Spartans fell short in game one, 9-4, and were shutout in game two, 12-0, as the Jersey Blues pulled off the upset sweep.

"Just one of those days today," stated Spartans Head Coach Eric Kutteroff, "Give Brookdale credit. They came here today and got the job done. We are battling some injuries but no excuses. We will turn the page on today and get back to work tomorrow. We have a lot of softball ahead of us."

GAME ONE - Lost 9-4

The Jersey Blues jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning and the Spartans stormed back in the bottom half of the inning with 4 runs to lead, 4-3. Brookdale took the lead with 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning, going ahead, 6-4, and added three more runs with 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to put the game away.

Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) led the Spartans offense with a 3-4 day at the plate with a double and Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) was 1-3 with a run scored and a double as the Spartans were only able to manage 6 hits.

Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) (8-1) suffered her first loss on the season, firing a complete game with 6 strikeouts.


GAME TWO - Lost 12-0

The Spartans and Jersey Blues were locked in a scoreless battle when Brookdale plated 3 runs in the top of the third inning and three more runs in the 4th and 5th innings each to break the game wide open in favor of the visitors.

Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) and Abymarie Colon (Easton, Pa/Wilson High School) had the lone hits for the Spartans. Kozy was 1-2 with a double and Colon was 1-2.

Northampton slips to 8-2 overall and 8-2 in Region 19.

Brookdale improves to 16-6 overall and 8-0 in the Region.

The Spartans are back in action on Thursday when they host a doubleheader against NJCAA DII opponent Mercer County College at 3:30pm at Spartan Field.
