SEWELL, NJ - The Northampton softball team lost their regular season finale to nationally ranked RCSJ-Gloucester, dropping both ends of the Region 19 doubleheader on Sunday at Roadrunner Park.
GAME ONE - Lost 3-0
Game one of the doubleheader was highlighted by outstanding pitching and solid defense on both sides, as the 3rd ranked Roadrunners were able to pull out a 3-0 victory.
Emily Childs got the win for RCSJ-Gloucester, limiting the Spartans to 5 hits, while striking out 10.
Emma Kozy (Emmaus, Pa/Emmaus) led the offense for Northampton, finishing 2 for 4, including a double, while
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School),
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) and
Emily Lattin (Easton, Pa/Easton High School) each had one hit.
Aniah Clavell (Allentown, Pa/Dieruff High School) took the loss, throwing 3.2 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 6 hits.
GAME TWO - Lost 14-6
The offenses for both teams showed up in game two, as the two teams combined for 26 hits and 20 runs, as the Roadrunners prevailed 14-6.
Maria Moore (Fogelsville, Pa/Parkland High School) finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, while
Erin Goonan (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg High School) went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI and 2 walks.
The Spartans scored 3 runs in the top of 1st, but the Roadrunners exploded for 7 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Northampton responded with 3 more runs in the top of the 2nd, but that would be the end of the scoring for the Spartans as RCSJ-Gloucester added 7 more runs over the last 5 innings to seal the victory.
The two losses drop Northampton to 17-11 overall and 17-11 in Region 19.
The 3rd ranked Roadrunners improve to 34-6 overall and 26-2 in the Region.
The Spartans will now await the seeding and the bracket for the upcoming Region 19 tournament, which will be held Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th at Middlesex College in Edison, NJ.
