Pereira Ready to Lead Soccer in 2009

Sophomore Daniel Pereira
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Community College men's soccer team will kick-off the 2009 campaign on Saturday at the County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ.

The Spartans are coming off a 16-1-0 season during which they captured the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) regular season title and finished as Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) runners-up.

The Titans, who lost to Herkimer County Community College in the national semi-finals, finished the 2008 season as the 3rd ranked team in the country by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Head Coach Erik Daly, the reigning EPCC Coach of the Year, returns along with eight members of the 2008 squad, led by Daniel Pereira and Matthew Snyder.  "We obviously lost a lot of talent from last season," lamented Daly, "but I have been happy with what I have seen from the new guys during camp and I am expecting big things from the returners ... this is their shot."

Northampton is completing their final season as a member of the EPCC, competing as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Game time on Saturuday in Randolph is set for 1:00pm.
