Spartan's Season Ends in Shoot-out

2010 Spartans finish season on a 12-game unbeaten streak

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The NCC men's soccer team season ended on Thursday night at 2nd seeded Ocean County College with a heart-breaking 2-1 shoot-out loss in the Regional semifinals.

7th seeded NCC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on a Josh Hoff penalty kick.  Ocean County's AJ Kolesa tied the game approximately five minutes into the second half and the teams then fought through the remainder of the second half and two overtime periods before going to the shoot-out.

Ocean County scored on their first attempt and NCC's Clark Israel missed to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead after round one.  Spartan goaltender Patrick Szarzynski stopped Ocean's second attempt, but Josh Hoff's shot was saved by the Ocean goalkeeper to keep the score at 1-0 after two rounds.  Ocean scored on their third attempt and NCC's Seth Dempsey scored to make the score 2-1 after three rounds.  Both teams missed their attempts in round four, leaving the score at 2-1 heading into the fifth round.  Ocean had a chance to seal the victory, but missed their attempt in round five, thus putting the pressure on NCC's Pat Hagen to tie score and extend the shootout, but Hagen's attempt went just wide, giving Ocean County College the 2-1 shoot-out victory.

The Spartans end their first season of NJCAA competition with a record of 10-5-4, with a 12-game unbeaten streak, as today's game is recorded as a tie in the record books.
