MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The NCC Spartans baseball opened the 2010 campaign with a bang, defeating Westmoreland Community College, 19-0, at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Sunday morning.
Freshman
Eric Thorpe threw a one-hit shutout, striking out 9 batters, to earn his first collegiate victory on the mound.
Tony Gotshall was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored while Sophomore
Greg Kolaronda finished 4 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Catcher
Christian Joest had 2 doubles, as the Spartans pounded out 21 hits as a team.
The Spartans, who sport 20 freshmen on a 25-man roster, will face Lakeland Community College on Sunday afternoon in game two of their Spring Training trip.
