BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC baseball opened their home schedule with a bang, sweeping nationally-ranked Herkimer County Communty College, 7-2, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE - The 9th ranked Generals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before NCC rallied with 3 runs in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Demetri Christofes threw a complete game 5-hitter, striking out 10 and walking only 1.
Joey Bamford was 3 for 4 with a double, Billy Turner was 2 for 4 and Greg Kolaronda hit a 3-run homerun to lead the Spartans to the victory.
GAME TWO - Northampton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Generals responded with 3 in the top of the 2nd to take a 3-1 lead. The Spartans tied the game at 3-3 with 2 runs in the 4th and took the lead for good at 5-3 with 2 runs in the 5th.
Chris Chamberlain earned the complete game victory, striking out 6 and walking 2.
Tony Gotshall hit a solo homerun and Bamford was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored for NCC.
The Spartans, now 4-6 overall, travel to Burlington County College on March 25th for a doubleheader.
