BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC baseball used an explosive offensive and solid pitching to sweep Broome Community College (NY) in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Spartans jumped on the Hornets for eight runs in the bottom of the 1st and added 10 runs in the bottom of the second and then cruised to an 18-2 victory.
Ryan Mickley was 2 for 2 with a double, homerun and 5 RBI. Eric Bohem was 3 for 3 with a double, a RBI and 2 runs scored and Nick Zegarski added 2 runs and 2 hits.
Ed Madey (1-1) earned his first collegiate victory, throwing a complete game, striking out 2.
In game two Jason Pennypacker (1-0) threw a complete game 3-hitter, striking out 7 in his first collegiate appearance as the Spartans prevailed, 7-1.
Billy Turner was 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI and catcher Christian Joest added 2 hits and a RBI to pace NCC.
Northampton improves to 6-8 overall and will open Region XIX play on Sunday when they host Union County College at 12:00pm.
