BETHLEHEM, Pa. - When the 2010 baseball season ends for the NCC Spartans, they may well look back to April 10th as the difference in their season.
The Spartans, who entered Saturday's doubleheader with Middlesex County College with a 5-1 record in their last six games, lost both games(7-3 and 9-3), dropping them to 12-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
"These two really hurt," echoed Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "given the schedule we have remaining, we have really put our backs against the wall. Playing at home, we needed at least a split ... but give all the credit in the world to Middlesex, they came here and flat out beat us."
Game one starter
Demetri Christofes (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and six earned runs in six innings of action.
Billy Turner and
Greg Kolaronda each went 2 for 3 in the loss.
Middlesex jumped out early in game two on starter
Eric Thorpe, forcing Yaguez to his bullpen, and cruised to the 9-3 victory.
Ryan Mickley was 2 for 3 with an RBI to pace the Spartans.
NCC travels to nationally-ranked Brookdale Community College on April 11th to face the Jersey Blues at noon.
Middlesex improves to 10-10 overall and 5-7 in Region XIX.
