BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC baseball team improved to 3-1 in Region XIX play with a doubleheader sweep of Montgomery County Community College on Saturday afternoon.
In game one Christian Joest broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Ryan Mickley, who had led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a bunt by Joey Bamford.
Demetri Christofes, who struck out eight and only allowed 4 hits, improved to 2-2 on the season with the complete game victory.
In game two Billy Turner (3 for 4) hit his first collegiate homerun in the bottom of the third, breaking a 3-3 tie, propelling NCC to a 10-4 victory.
Rich Pohl, Greg Kolaronda, Joest and Bamford each had two hits to pace the offense.
Chris Chamberlain (4-1) went four innings allowing five hits and striking out five to earn the victory.
Eric Thorpe gave Coach Yaguez three innings of solid relief pitching, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Northampton, now 11-9 overall, improves to 9-1 at Spartan Field with the doubleheader sweep.
The Spartans are off until April 6th when they travel to Bergen County College for a Region XIX doubleheader.
