NEWTON, NJ -
Clark Israel scored the game winner with one minute remaining as the NCC men's soccer team fought back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Sussex County Community College, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon.
Sussex opened the scoring 11 minutes into the contest but
Josh Hoff tied the game with a penalty kick at the 19 minute mark of the first half.
The Skylanders scored two quick goals early in the second half to take a commanding 3-1 lead after NCC's
Brady Neenan received a red card, putting the Spartans a man down.
Steve Underwood then scored two goals, the first off an assist from Pat Hagen and the second on a through ball from
Kyle Coover to knot the game at 3-3, setting the stage for the dramatic game-winning goal.
Seth Dempsey sent a through ball past the Sussex defense that a streaking Israel caught in stride and sent past the Skylander keeper, sending the Spartan bench into a frenzy.
"What a game," remarked Head Coach Ned Yelovich, "what composure these guys showed today ... to come back from 2 goals down while playing a man short, I am very happy with our effort today, we are really starting to come together as a team."
Pat Szarzynski earned the win in goal, recording 7 saves.
NCC (3-5-1), winners of two straight, travel to Atlantic Cape Community College on Saturday to face the Buccaneers.
