BLUE BELL, Pa. - The NCC men's soccer team closed out their disappointing 2011 season with a 9-3 loss at Montgomery County Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mustangs, who needed a victory to clinch a playoff spot, played like a team with a purpose, taking a 6-1 lead into the locker room at halftime. "They really jumped us on early," stated NCC Head Coach Ned Yelovich, "you could tell they were not going to be denied today ..."
Eric Jimenez scored his team-leading 14th goal in the first half and Nick Treszniowski and
Ty Wissinger added second half tallies to lead the Spartan offense.
Jeremie Martinez took the loss in goal, making 13 saves.
"While it was obviously a disappointing season to say the least, I was really proud of how the kids stuck it out and competed the entire season," commented Yelovich, "we went into a number of games knowing we were outmanned, but the guys continued to fight."
The Spartans, who went to the Region XIX Final Four last season, finished the 2011 campaign with a record of 2-14-1 overall and 2-13-1 in Region XIX.
Montgomery improves to 8-8-0 and now waits for the Region Tournament bracket to be released.
