BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC men's soccer team came out determined to break their 8-game losing streak on Monday afternoon, scrapping their way to a 0-0 tie at halftime with Cumberland County College.
However, the Dukes quickly turned the tide in their favor in the second half, scoring 2 goals in the first seven minutes and extending the lead to 7-0 before NCC freshman Nick Trezesniowski drilled home a 22 yard free kick to make it 7-1.
Cumberland added a late goal to make the final 8-1 and improve to 6-6-0 overall and 5-5-0 in Region XIX.
"I have no answers right now," lamented a visibly distraught Ned Yelovich, "the kids are trying hard, but we are just not able to compete ... it is very frustrating given the success we had last year, we had really hoped to build off that and use that momentum to take us to another level this season ... unfortunately, things have not worked out that way."
The loss drops NCC to 1-10-1 overall and 1-9-1 in Region XIX and eliminates them from playoff contention for the 2011 season.
NCC returns to action on Saturday October 8th when they host Atlantic Cape Community College (5-7-0 overall).
