BETHLEHEM, Pa. - NCC sophomore
Eric Jimenez scored 4 goals and had 2 assists to lead the Spartans to a 6-2 victory over Atlantic Cape Community College on Saturday afternoon.
Jimenez, who now has 13 goals and 6 assists, is ranked 6th in Region XIX in scoring and 11th in the Nation, "Eric had a tremendous day," stated Northampton Head Coach Ned Yelovich, "he has been doubled teamed most of the year, today he got a chance to get into space and he really made things happen."
The Buccaneers got on the board first, 14 minutes into the contest, but Jimenez tied things up off a thru ball from
Nick Trzesniowski to make the score 1-1.
The game remained tied the remainder of the first half, but the Spartans broke out in the second with Jimenez getting his second of the day off a pass from
Tre Cardwell.
Jimenez then found Trzesniowski on a scramble in front of the Atlantic goal to make it 3-1 Northampton.
Jimenez then added his 3rd and 4th goals of the day on breakaways, with assists from Trzesniowski (1 goal 2 assists) and Kyle Koover making the score 5-1 Northampton.
The Buccaneers converted a penalty kick to make the score 5-2 Northampton before
Jose Ortiz scored off an assist from Jimenez to make the final 6-2.
"It is a relief to final get that money off our back," sighed a relieved Yelovich, "I am very proud of how hard the kids are still playing ... they all obviously know it has been a very tough season for us, but they refuse to quit."
Yelovich also praised the play of sophomore
Kyle Coover, saying, "he had a very strong game at center mid."
NCC improves to 2-10-1 overall and 2-9-1 in Region XIX.
Atlantic Cape Community College falls to 6-9-0 overall and 4-8-0 in Region XIX.
NCC returns to action on October 12th when they travel to second place Union County College (11-2-0 / 9-1-0).
