Baseball Opens Season with Two Victories

Eric Bohem went 6 for 8 for the Spartans
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The NCC Baseball team opened the 2011 season with two convincing victories at the Ripken Experience Complex in Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday. 

In game one the Spartans defeated Westmoreland County Community College, 11-1, as Demetri Christofes earned the victory allowing 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking one.  Eric Bohem was 3 for 4 with a RBI, while Christian Joest and Kyle Dauscher each went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

NCC, which pounded out 14 hits, scored at least one run in each inning to earn the victory and improve to 1-0.

In game two, NCC jumped out early with 2 runs in the first inning and then exploded for 7 runs in the 4th as they defeated Lakeland College (OH), 12-1.  Eric Bohem was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, Elliott Freeman was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Mike Tenaglia hit a solo homerun to lead the Spartan offense.

Mike Ciavarella went the distance, allowing 3 hits, striking out 3 and walking none to earn his first victory of the season, as NCC improved to 2-0.

The Spartans return to action on Monday when they face Iowa Central at 9:00am and Southeastern Community College (IA) at noon.
